Factions in Mymero

Mymero's quests take place in the world Orymme, an anagram of Memory. Orymme sees many conflicts and is divided in factions, although these are certainly not always hostile towards another. Factions serve to make characters more distinct.

You may have noticed the 4 different colors that the character card layouts can have. Every color represents a different character faction in the game:
Enlightened (blue), Earthbound (green), Renegade (red) and Darkling (purple). There are 3 character cards for each Faction. In every uneven level, the Faction cards are shuffled within their own Faction column. Every even level, cards are shuffled completely randomly.

Enlightened Faction

The Enlightened faction stands for law and order, contemplation, knowledge and peace. It's the most idealistic faction, but also the richest faction and includes all sorts of nobility.

Angels, aristrocrats, scholarly wizards but also townsfolk are typical Enlightened characters. Some Elfs are Enlightened too, this usually means they don't inhabit the forests but are part of the Royal army or otherwise connected to one of Orymme's cities.

Characteristics that can typicallly be found only in Earthbound Characters are Diplomacy and Wealth.

Earthbound Faction

The Earthbound faction is known for it's close ties with nature and although peaceful, does not acknowledge any other authority. They do not believe in individual property but are more interested in the purpose and nature of things. They are not so interested in the distinction between good and evil, but more in the one between pure or impure. Belonging, being in the right place is their highest goal.

Elfs, Nymphs, Faunlings and Faeries are typical Enlightened characters.

Characteristics that can typicallly be found only in Earthbound Characters are Forestbound, Hunting and Intuition.

Renegade Faction

The Renegade faction is the most wild and chaotic of factions, holding loose ties with pirates, barbarians and other scoundrels. Their goal is optimalisation of self interest by minimising internal conflicts, negotiating and dividing territories. They have no respect for any other authority but their own but, as they are outlaws, have to live under relatively harsher conditions and occupy mostly the more barren regions of Orymme.

Barbarians, pirates, thiefs, Orks and Goblins are typical Renegade characters.

Characteristics that can typicallly be found in Renegade Characters are Persuasion but also Undiplomatic (negates Diplomacy) and Double Trouble.

Darkling Faction

The Darklings are known for their obsession with the past, with death and their clever, tricky way of getting whatever they want. Darklings are a secretive faction, not very trusting and don't work together often. Darklings are not necessarily evil but believe strongly in achieving ancient goals of their own bloodline by any means necessary. Despite their known cynicism and reclusive tendencies, Darklings can amass astonishing power on their own through their patient, intelligent and careful nature

Cultists, Demons, Necromancers and Assassins are typical Darkling characters.

Characteristics that can be found only in Darkling Characters are Curse and Cruelty. Yes, plenty of Darklings can have a mean streak! But Solitude and Treachery are also more common amongst Darklings and will not necessarily serve an evil purpose.
